Last Song by @JasonWebley - an amazing song from Against the Night.
“One day,
The snow began to fall,
And slowly, inch by inch,
Covered up the earth.
‘Til finally,
The top of the tallest building,
Was lost beneath a powdered sea,
As quiet as a shadow’s grave.
And we say that the world isn’t dying.
And we pray that the world isn’t dying.
And just maybe the world isn’t dying.
Maybe she’s heavy with child.
One night,
A woman took my hand.
I left my home and followed her
Into an icy field.
When I wanted to go back,
I’d lost the way.
So she beckoned me to lie beneath
The stone that always bore my name.
One morning,
We woke up in an alley.
To the smell of urine, alcohol,
Trash and gasoline,
With a dim sense of a notion
We’d held something in our hands,
That was bigger than us or God,
And we can never touch again.
I’ve been looking at the symptoms for a while,
Maybe she’s heavy with child.”

@jasonwebley, @amandapalmer + @neilhimself were present at THE eleveniest day of my life.
This video features Jason Webley and Amanda Palmer singing “Elephant”, The Evelyn Sisters (Shook Twins) singing “You Only Want Me ‘Cause You Want My Sister”, and Neil Gaiman reading a poem about his stag night with Jason.
This was Jason’s final concert for a good long while. If you were blessed enough to be there (like me, a non-procrastinator), you know what a ebulliently magical night that was. From the buskers outside and in the lobby to following those buoyant red balloons all the way down to the water’s edge where many of us bid a farewell to a Seattle treasure.
I filmed on the final night of Jason Webley’s performance schedule at The Moore Theatre on 11-11-11
Produced by @amandapalmer and @jasonwebley (aka @EvelynEvelyn) this video was directed by Hoku Uchiyama and it is simply wonderful. And the song is catchy as HELL!
I cannot wait to see them both live next month…
“So if you see my sister Evelyn,
Tell that girl to hurry home again!
Where oh where’d my sister Evelyn go?”
Neil Gaiman sings. Jason Webley plays. And together they perform in Edinburgh…
“She says we need to raise a brand new army
And the flag of France so proudly she’ll unfold
And the people that she hated will be neatly bifurcated
And the British will no longer rule the world”
