@Phoebe_Hunt performs her original song “Dream Maker” with backing cello from @BenSollee, live at The Triple Door, filmed August 2nd, 2011.
@BenSollee + @Phoebe_Hunt perform “Bible Belt” live at The Triple Door, filmed August 2nd, 2011. I’ve respected him as a musician for years now. Ben is one of the cellists that inspired me to take lessons. It was magical to see him perform again and to have a new artist to follow too. Phoebe was amazing!
A gorgeous live video of @bensollee’s song “Hurting”. I’ve seen him every time he’s been to Seattle and have been blown away every single time.
Electrified by Ben Sollee with the glorious Phoebe Hunt on violin. The song is amazing but truly, I crush on them both… musically. Not that they aren’t easy on the eyes either…

Today’s audio gift is a track by Ben Sollee called “Prettiest Tree on the Mountain.” It’s from Learning to Bend, an exceptional album.
“Well a robin flew by my window
I thought it just might be you
Judging from the colour of its breast
And the sound of its song
But I’m just thinking of you
‘Cause you’re in sunny California
The fertile land on Steinbeck road
When I came not a single furrow patch
Could be spared for you and me
You see I wanted to love you baby
But neither you nor I’d been loved before
I thought I could change the world if I just held you high enough
The truth is I couldn’t hold you up at all
I couldn’t hold you up
I couldn’t hold you up
And I sure ain’t gonna hold you down
Well I’m leaving
Walking back home
I don’t care if it takes years or more
But as I walk through the hills of Kentucky
The leaves begin to turn red
And I think of you
Yes, I think of you
The prettiest tree on the mount.”
Check out the new song + video for “Close to You” by Ben Sollee. He’s an exceptional cellist and a super nice guy in person. If he comes to your city, go and see him. his summer tour is listed below.
Oh yeah, if you are lucky enough to catch Casey Driessen play with him, you’re in for a treat. I’ve seen both these guys perform with Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn. Driessen is a tremendous fiddler.
Sometimes, I wear feathers to feel close to the sky.
When I turn off the lights I am part of the night.
I’ve been layin’ next to you just to see if it feels right.
I want to be close to you, but you’re miles away.

“Tetrishead” by Zoë Keating.
This original composition was performed at San Francisco Airport on New Year’s Eve 2008.
I had the distinct pleasure of watching Zoë Keating perform tonight. Her work with cello is achingly beautiful and nothing short of amazing. And every single time I see a cellist perform, I yearn for the skills to play.
Anyway, I fangirled when I met her after the show. I didn’t mean to but I did. So thank you, Zoë for playing Seattle tonight. And thank you for the conversation.
A cello version of this song? I had to share…
“I gave you candy, gave you diamonds, gave you pills,
I gave you anything you want, hundred dollar bills,
I even let you hear the songs I wanna sing
I’ll give you anything, anything, anything…
I’ll give you anything, anything, anything…
I’ll give you anything, anything, anything…”
Ben’s playing Seattle next month. It’ll be so great to see him again!
“I picture the Harlem Globe Trotters dancin’ like mosquitoes with a basketball.
There is beauty in freedom and folks like me.
Came over on boats, flew in on planes, crawled under fences and fought wars to find some unity.”
